Resident Application - A Resident Application is an application, programs or programs that are built into the memory of an electronic device such as a set-top box.  These are updated, often automatically, by the service provider via the data stream (signal) that the device receives from the service provider. Examples could include a browser and user-interface applications, such as an electronic program guide.
