Network
Computer – (NC) - (a.k.a. Net PC,
Managed PC)
- Many thought
Network
Computers would be big sellers but as the price
of computers dropped
so much, the money saved getting these bare-bones computers was largely
negated. These computers were cheaper, simpler and less
expensive than the standard personal computers of the time. Network
computers (NCs)
take/took
programs directly from the
Internet, Intranets and other networks versus storing most of it on the
computer. Net-PCs (NCs) generally have no floppy drive and have
limited
ability to be upgraded. All configuration, management, and
updating
is/was done by a server(s) on the network. Oracle was perticularly
interested in these.
