CISCs - (Complex Instruction Set Computers) - Another term for describing the type of computer that the standard desktop PC is.  CISCs are built to handle a number of instructions where the opposite is true of RISC computers. RISC computers are built to take only a comparatively few instructions. CISC computers are generally more expensive than RISC computers.
